“I will support Frans Timmermans for European Commission president”, said the Greek Prime Minister on Tuesday, at the informal EU Summit dinner of the EU Heads of State and Government.

“After 15 years of conservative choices for the European Commission presidency, it is time to make a progressive choice and I will therefore support the candidate who comes first in votes among progressive candidates, and that is Frans Timmermans,” announced Alexis Tsipras.

He also argued that the choice of the European People’s Party, Manfred Weber, is someone who cannot unite the EU, he will only divide it, and he is identified with extremely conservative and neoliberal choices, that would threaten Greece’s interests as well as those of the southern European countries.
