Their commitment to increase regional co-operation, support energy independence and security, and defend their countries from external bad influences in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East, expressed Greece, Cyprus and Israel, according to a press release issued by the leaders of the three countries, Alexis Tsipras, Nicos Anastasiades and Benjamin Netanyahu, respectively, who met on Wednesday in Jerusalem.

In the press release, on the occasion of the tripartite summit attended by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the three leaders welcomed the recent gas findings in the Eastern Mediterranean and their potential to contribute to energy security and diversification.

Mike Pompeo underlined US’s support to the tripartite mechanism established by Israel, Greece and Cyprus and noted the importance of increased co-operation.

The Greek Prime Minister noted that it is the 6th time the three countries meet in the recent past, stressing that this tripartite cooperation has become strategic, especially in the areas of energy and security.
