Addressing the General Meeting of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) on Thursday, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras referred to the prospects of Greece’s economy, with tourism being the main pillar for its recovery. Mr. Tsipras also announced that in 2019 there will be a surplus of 700 million euros, which will be utilized for tax relieves.

“Tourism has been perhaps the only sector that has managed to grow in the years of deep recession. The support of employment and the investment to the positive prospects of the country are the best example of what we can achieve even in difficult times,” the Prime Minister said, stressing that this year we are expected to break the record of tourist arrivals once again. “Despite the difficulties in Greece’s economy, we have hit a record-high in tourism for three consecutive years, and this is partly due to the fact that our country remained a pillar of stability and security in a fragile and destabilized area,” he added.
