With a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, deputy Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN Polly Ioannou reported the violations of Cyprus’ airspace and territorial waters by Turkey, which occurred last August. The letter was accompanied by a detailed list of the violations of Cyprus’ national airspace and of the international rules of air traffic in the FIR of Nicosia, including incidents of illegal use of closed ports and airports by Turkey.

“This systematic policy of breaching international law and international rules and regulations is a constant threat to international peace and security, adversely affects regional stability, endangers the security of international Civil aviation, creates difficulties in the movement of aircrafts over Cyprus, and prevents the creation of a favorable environment in which the Cyprus peace process will take place,” Mrs. Ioannou said in her letter.
