“Since January we have designated the 13 referral hospitals and have carried out readiness exercises under the coordination of EKAB”, said Health Minister Vasilis Kikilias, while he thanked the infectious disease specialist Sotiris Tsiodras for what he has offered and will continue to offer in the battle against the coronavirus, at today’s press conference on the development of the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece.

As the Minister said, the gradual operation of new ICUs continues, noting that “two months ago the NHS had 565 ICU beds, to which we added 80 from the private sector to deal with the flu patients. We have also added to the health care system 38 ICU beds from military hospitals while the entire NIMITS military hospital will be accepting exclusively coronavirus patients. We will hire as many people as needed to strengthen the National Health System, Mr. Kikilias said.
